High-end components don't come cheap, which is why old Nexus devices like the Nexus 4 and 5X suffered from having poor cameras and weak batterys. The Pixel is undoubtedly more expensive, but with that you get a much better phone that will give the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 a run for their money. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it too expensive considering the competition? No, it's a flagship phone which is commanding a flagship price. That's fine.
