I have ATT Uverse and an ATT modem router and didn't have to change a thing. The Google mesh works by basically setting up a new network over your old one. It was really easy.

You can simply use the AT&T utility to disable your AT&T wifi signal and then set up the Google wifi. However, I didn't even bother to shut of the AT&T wifi, so I have both wireless networks running. This Google system is just as easy (maybe easier) to set up as any other wireless router I've set up in the past.
