Yes you do. This is simply a different type of router. You connect one of the three to the cable modem or DSL modem. The other two (called access points) you setup around the house or business where you want to enhance coverage.

This is strictly to turn your internet from someone like at&t, comcast, or comcast into wireless internwt for things such as cell phones, tablets, streaming devices, etc. This is only a wireless router. You can turn off or cancel at&t's wireless router if you have one through them that you are renting monthly. Hopefully i answered your question.
