Google WiFi will get Internet from the router that supplies Internet (your ISP) to your home; your "Old ISP (Charter)"? If you are still getting Internet from Charter, then there is your source. If you've disconnected from Charter (Old?) then, perhaps you are using another Internet Service Provider? You're not getting Internet through the Google WiFi; it's getting internet from your ISP/Router and distributing a wireless signal to your home. The point is, this is a range extender, which will extend your WiFi signal throughout a larger area of your home than whatever WiFi Router your are currently using and do it through a 'Mesh Network'. This means you will be able to move about your home on a single sign-in to your wireless - much like your cell phone does not drop signal when you move between cell phone towers. Take my home as an example - I have a single Wireless Router, a LinkSys WRT54G. I get great signal in my living room and kitchen (where the wireless router is); signal drops as I head towards bedrooms or basement. I plan to replace my LinkSys with one of the Google WiFi units (it's connected directly to the router my ISP provided). A second unit will go in the bedrooms on the south end of the house and the third unit will go closer to my master bedroom on the north end of the house. From that point, I'll used the Android App to adjust locations for best signal. The product page on Best Buy provides specifications for the units: Dimension Height 2.7 inches Width 4.17 inches Depth 4.17 inches Weight 0.75 pounds If you are familiar with the Amazon Alexa Dots, this is a similar size.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can simply buy one google wifi if all you want is short range of wireless internet. 3 of them if you want more range(this does more than a standard good wireless router). It is strictly a wireless router and the pods are smaller than the size of a standard bowl.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The signal comes from your ISP. These replace your router. The benefit, besides them being fast with great range, is that it is a mesh network, you can control everything from the app instead of logging on with the ip address, and other features like setting up time limits for your kids' devices.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can buy one if your home is smaller or a 3 pack for large or multi level homes. They plug directly into your modem and then piggy back on each other if you purchase more than one. Each station is about 3 inches tall and 5 inches wide.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They are about the size of large coffee mug - They are white, so depending on your decor it blends in. The 1st hub hardwire connects to your modem (from your provider - FYI, you'll need to shut off the WiFi on your providers modem to avoid it giving out the same address as the google wifi - which can create problems). Once the 1st unit is hardwired and turned on, the other units can be placed around your house to extend the reach of your Wireless internet signal (So place them strategically). These units can be moved around and tested with the app to find the best (Optimal) place for them to be. The controls on the app allow you to monitor your network even when you are not home along with a few other neat controls Hope this helps
