It snaps directly onto the camera lense. There is a very small string that you should use to attach it to the camera in case the lense should fall off, which is a possibility, even though the filter is pretty secure.

It is a snug fit and works great for shallow water. I used it to take underwater videos and pictures at depths of 1-20ft. Colors come out much richer and crisper
