You can, but the bill of the hat will come up in the frame. Its best to wear ur cap backwards if you want to wear this strap over a hat. To use the clip, you have to have ur hat on backwards

Please try again later.The "head strap" is actually an assembly with a flat, padded plastic piece that rests against the back of your head, another plastic piece that goes on your forehead, an elastic strap that encircles your head and connects the two plastic pieces, plus another elastic strap that runs across the top of your head from the front piece to the back piece. The front piece has a camera mount molded into it -- the connector with the interleaving disk-shaped fingers that the big thumb screw screws through. You can strap this baby directly on your head, or over a cap or dew-rag. Generally speaking, a cap with a bill should not be a problem. This kit also includes a clip designed to clip onto the bottom edge of a close-fitting baseball cap. To have the camera facing where you're headed, you have to put the cap on backwards -- it doesn't work on the bill. The elastic strap assembly attaches the camera to your head more securely than the clip does.
