“Is a special case needed? Are there corrosion issues for being in salt water? Camera will only be used while surfing. I have issues with my Hero 7 that the battery door has major issue with corrosion due to being in salt water frequently.”

No special case is needed unless you plan to take the GoPro deeper than 33 feet. If you are using the GoPro in salt water, it's always a good idea to rinse it off with fresh water after use.
