H&R Block likes to claim it doesn't work on Windows 7, but it still does. It just isn't officially supported, for nonsense reasons (Microsoft's own support status does not determine what other companies choose to support), but it works fine. It was the same situation with last year's version, 2019 claimed to only work on 8.1 and up but it still worked on Windows 7.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have purchased H&R Block's tax software package for the 2018 and 2019 tax years, successfully installing and using them on my Windows 7-based laptop. A few days ago I purchased (online) the 2020 package but was unsuccessful in getting it to install on my laptop after several attempts. I tried it on my Windows 10-based desktop system and it loaded/installed the first time I tried it, with no issues. Don't think that I'll be patronizing Block in future years. I think that they could have done a bit more to advise potential customers of their product's Win7 incompatibility. Yes, I know that MS has officially abandoned support for Win7 but there are millions of people out there who still use it on a daily basis. More than anything, however, I was put off by Block's execrable "customer support" service. This "service" was so pathetic that it beggars description: it must be experienced to be believed. In fact, Block might seriously want to consider renaming this service to "customer alienation"... which in my case is exactly what it accomplished.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It may or may not work on Win7. HRBlock does not support on Win7 and getting them to refund your money is a project in itself. Also, TaxCut phone support is dreadful, awful, wait on hold for 25 minutes to an hour, then the support person may or may not be able to help. Worse they will send you to a link for the software developer (not HRBlock) have not had any luck with support. Also program is not nearly as good as prior years. Problems with efile & IRS rejections plus simple errors in program. There are certainly better tax programs available in 2020. FYI I've been using Taxcut for a decade or more. This years versions is terrible
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. Their geniuses programmed script errors to attack you with every click.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I installed H&R Block Deluxe on my Windows 7 system. I completed one tax return but not before having to download the software a few times. It seems that if I saved the file and came back later to continue, the program wouldn't launch. Problem unknown and Microsoft Troubleshooter couldn't find a fix. I completed my return but managed to hit the limit of downloads permitted. I called the support line and the wait time was 50 minutes. I called back later and the wait time was 35 minutes. While waiting, I did some investigating. In my case, the problem is caused by module DataTierAPI.dll being corrupted. Exception Code C0000096. I talked to the rep, finally, and gave her my findings. She immediately said that the software is not supported on Windows 7. The box it came in says that, too. I thought it strange that it would run sometime and then crash. I also had installed it on a second Windows 7 system and it's still running. In any case, I asked if she could reset the limit counter so that I could finish a second return and she did. As of this posting, I have not started the second return, waiting to allocate enough of my time to where I can complete it in one sitting. FreeTaxUSA will get an opportunity to earn my business next year.
