Hello - The Modular Backguard (referred to as the Rear Trim in the Installation Instructions) can be installed in two different positions. The first is in the “up” position for a more traditional freestanding look. The second is the “down” position to create a slide-in look. We recommend that you review the installation instructions for the dimension requirements. All the best. - Don@Haier
