I have not had a problem at all with this crockpot burning things. However, I have not cooked mashed potatoes in mine, so I can’t speak to that particular issue. On a side note, I do not like using the crock pot bags. I feel that it messes with the heat process once the crockpot is on the warm setting. I use the baking nonstick spray and it leaves no mess! I’m sorry I couldn’t answer your question about the mashed potatoes, but I hope the part about me not having any problems with burning food helped.

I have not experienced burning with this crockpot it has a high setting and low and after the program cooking is done it switches to warm . Love this one !! Hope this helps
