Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am not sure it is Geek Squad doing the work. I inquired in the online chat with a Best Buy employee if i could bring in my Macbook Pro with an Intel processor and a battery and have it replaced for $40. I was told that would be no problem. Upon arriving in store for my appointment I was told they could not open a Mac product and instead would have to have it sent out for a third party to install which they would take at least two weeks. Further more they could not use the battery i purchased and could no longer return, not because of incompatibility, but instead because the third party insisted on using OEM parts which would cost me more because it was an Intel Mac which is 7 years old. Upon further inquiry the technician informed me they could not even open the Mac but had i brought in another manufacturers computer running Windows it would not be an issue. The Mac can run windows which is software not hardware. I point this out because both my Mac and most computers running Windows use the x86 architecture. Further more Windows has an ARM architecture version that can run on among other things a Raspberry Pi. I will concede that newer Macs use an ARM architecture in the Mx chips, but Mac OS only runs on Apple silicone. Taken to it logical conclusion I could build a custom computer and place it inside an empty apple case making sure it is closed up. I could take the exact same components and put them in a Cool Master case and take them up to best buy. According to Apple's Terms of service Neither of those builds can run Mac OS Legally. They may be able to be turned into Hackentoshs but that is a grey area. Upon bringing both computers in, only the Cool Master could be serviced, because they are unable to open a "Mac." The hardware which I am asking them to service is the exact same except for the case, which in all actuality is not required for the internal components to function. I was referred to Hardon Computers which quoted me a price of over $300 to take the Macbook and send it out to be fixed. If you want to point out they advertise working on PCs. Macs have been repeatedly referred to as PCs in American court filings. They are also machines intended for person computing, hence the abbreviation PC. When serving a warrant to seize a person's PCs, I have yet to find an instance where the fact a machine was a Mac product kept it from being seized. A Mac is brand a brand of PC. A Dell is a brand of PC. I call shenanigans!
