It will playback DVR content on your tv if you purchase the service from silicondust for I think it is $35 per yr. You will also need to setup on a pc with storage so you can save recordings.Or you can get the plex app on a pc or Mac and get a plex pass from plex which is $120 for a lifetime plan then you will need to put the plex app on your tv or say a firetv stick and you can watch everything you dvr.

If you are not sure if your TV is able to stream it most likely means that it is not. Check your TV manual, in particular IP connectivity or streaming part. There is no way to use this device with a TV showing over the air channels only without an intermediate tools. Recording is even more difficult, it will definitely require using at least home network.

It is compatible with many applications. You would definitely need a smart TV to watch it, and you would need some kind of other device with storage to record any programs. I have a computer. I have mine hooked directly to the cable line, and I get over 80 digital cable channels. I use it with Windows 7 PC and Windows Media Center to record my shows. I am not paying any fees for the program guide. It works better than a TiVo for me. I also installed HDHomerun's QuickTV program on my computer for watching live TV. It shows me what is on and how far along it is. I am not paying any monthly or yearly fees for the program guide. It just works.

Think of it as a remote tuner that receives a signal from your antenna coax and then converts it to a format that your wireless router (transmitter) can broadcast through your home. (You wire your antenna to it and then wire the device to your router.) Most devices that receive WiFi can receive that TV signal. I use it to get over-the-air broadcast TV signal to a room that my outside antenna is not wired to and will not pick up broadcast with "rabbit ears." I can receive the signal on my iPhone, too. But, I've been unsuccessful getting it to work on my PC with Win 7. You will need a TV that receives WiFi to use this, or an external device connected to your TV that receives WiFi such as a FireStick.
