The HDHomeRun EXTEND is meant for Over the Air TV, though it can also support ClearQAM over cable, but not many cable companies support ClearQAM anymore. To record cable, you typically need a cablecard device, which in this case is called the HDHomeRun Prime. Then you need to setup a DVR. Instructions for that can be found here: http://my.hdhomerun.com/instructions/windows-record/ And then install the HDHomeRun app on any device that wants to watch content. It all works over wifi or ethernet.
