We use ARC with a Yamaha receiver. Works great. Either the TV remote or the receiver's remote will control the volume -- both remotes make VOL UP/DN go on both devices. Make sure to enable ARC on the TV and the receiver.

If you connect an ARC compatible device to HDMI 2 and set the TV's volume to zero.
