When you use the scan channel feature, that is for over the air channels through an antenna. You don't need to do that scan feature if he has a cable box. The cable box is where he gets his channels.

The HDMI ports/ inputs will produce whatever the external device is giving, however we are asking you please perform a factory reset by going to Menu>> Settings>> Device preferences>> Reset>> Reset your TV back to the factory default.
