“I've had this TV since August 2021 and the HDMI out has never worked. I am connected to a high end Yamaha rx receiver. The receiver sends a&v out to the TV from an attached Samsung 4k BR but the TV refuses to send audio back thru the HDMI from apps.”

When comparing HDMI vs. optical audio cables for sound quality, HDMI is better than optical. Moreover, with optical cables, the usage is limited to speakers up to 5.1, while HDMI takes advantage of Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Apparently the Hisense cannot connect to a Home theatre sound system by HDMi arc. The sound from the TV will only travel over optical. So you have been warned. Any Dolby Atmos etc from streaming sources won't be sent to your home theatre. Optical won't carry the new Dolby . That's my understanding. Anyone ?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes optical will produce sound but optical does not produce the new Dolby sound that HDMI will produce nor CEC. The new streaming services are producing better sound that optical can't carry. The fact is the tv is not fully functional.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have had many calls to Hisense support on this issue. I have received new firmware. Nothing changed. I had a Tier 1 person tell me the Yamaha receiver would not work because the HDMI ARC port on the Yamaha was labeled OUT, it cant receive data. duh. Yes that is correct the Yamaha AVR HDMI ARC is out to the TV. The TV HDMI ARC is IN. The Audio settings on the TV have TV Speaker, ARC and Bluetooth. The only one that can be selected is TV Speaker. I even have TV speaker set to disable
