Please try again later.One answer: Yes: At least one brand of smart speaker can work in some limited way as an audio intercom (or "baby monitor"): the "Google Home Mini" (1st generation) can call a phone ( by being told, "OK\Hey Google: Call .. [the ph. #] " ). (During the call, BTW, the "caller" shows as "Restricted".) Then, during such a call, the speaker can indeed pick up some ambient sounds, tho not very clearly, and thus could perhaps work as a crude audio monitor. _However_, this commenter hasn't yet found out how well it picks up sounds from sources beyond just a couple of feet away; nor, whether or not the system might automatically end the call after a certain limited number of minutes. ( One wonders whether Google could easily make their smart speakers act as a clear & reliable intercom, but so-far is avoiding doing so? --- and, so-far, is even denying [in e.g. their help forums] that their smart speakers can already serve, even if crudely, in such a mode, all just in order that they &/or their affiliates can sell yet other devices & apps which definitely do? )
