Thank you for reaching out. This heater cannot be programmed to turn on. However, this unit is equipped with a 2,4,6,8, and 12-hour timer for automatic shut off. Please try again later.It is thermostat controlled so if you wanted to turn on and off automatically you need to set the temperature which is the "SET" button to desire temperature and it will turn itself on and off according to the temperature of your room regardless if you're home or not I work 11 hours a day 4 days a week and I run it 24/7 during the winter. But if it is leaking. That is absolutely no good you need to return it and not use it at all
