Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, all smart thermostats require a C wire. This provides 24 v power to the device. They do not have battery backup. You need a wire harness with 5 wires. Sometimes an old thermostat wired with only four wires may have a fifth wire tucked inside the wall or coiled around the harness. Pull out wire harness from wall to check. There are ways to wire at your HVAC unit to use a four wire setup. Look at YouTube or hire tech.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mine was installed by the hvac installer when I got a new system but I do believe it does require a C wire just from reading other reviews on it. I don't believe the nest thermostats require one though.
