California Proposition 65 is a law that requires companies to inform consumers about a wide range of natural and synthetic chemicals that California believes may cause reproductive harm or cancer. This law was first enacted as part of a California ballot initiative in 1986 and it has been updated over the years. There are approximately 990 chemicals that California currently includes on its Proposition 65 list including many chemicals that are contained in common household products and foods. A Proposition 65 warning does not mean that a product is unsafe for use. The warning is provided so Californians can make informed decisions about chemical exposure. A Proposition 65 warning is a common warning found on many consumer products and household appliances including vacuum cleaners.
