Yes, it dries the carpet, in the sense that it sucks up all liquid water. You can tell when water is being sucked up by observing the foam in the transparent top plate. Thar said, the carpet is still damp, much like clothes after spin dry in a washer. Full drying occurs by evaporation in an hour or two. Best to stay off the carpet and arrange good ventilation during that time.
