• This is not a vacccum, so you'll have to purchase a separate one. This just pushes water and solution into carpet and then sucks it up. I really love it. You should also buy a vacuum for all that other dry stuff :}

• We recommend using a vacuum prior to using any carpet cleaner, this one included. The reason for this is that they are designed to scrub the carpets and suck up the mess through the water. Large debris like hair can quickly clog the nozzle since the water makes the hair cling more easily. Thanks, Joseph - The Hoover Team
