My Hoover SmartWash is not drying/suctioning water. I have thoroughly cleaned it but it still will not extract water from the carpet. null

Just had this issue with my Hoover SmartWash Plus, today. I removed the clean water tank and turned on the 'dry only' setting. Then, I relaxed the handle about 180 degrees as I made each pass and the suction/dry function worked again perfectly. It appears that the handle triggers the suction and if the handle is in a more upright position, the suction will not engage.

Remove the purple filter cup from the collection tank. I paid good money for my Smartwash Pet and it only suctioned the first time I used it. Tried again and again, no luck. Then I read on a blogpost to remove the filter. Now it's working fine.

I had same problem! But I just figured
It out at least for what was wrong for me. The dirty water tank was not totally hinges properly and I think that affects the suction. I just reattached the top of the dirty water bucket and it worked!

Same with mine. None of these "fixes" helped. Could not get suction no matter what i did. Sitting in the garbage pile now ready to be picked up. Shame that such an expensive model was such a P.O.S. Barely got a year out of it. Next one will NOT be a Hoover.

We have a smartwash also and it refused to pickup dirty water in the carpet. I read the comment on here remove the red/purple filter in the dirty water bucket. I did this and it started suctioning perfectly. The filter was plugged on the bottom but not the sides. Go figure. The filter is useless as the crap it collects would just go out with the dirty water anyway. Thanks for all these comments guys! I think we'll just leave the filter/strainer out permanently.

I had this same problem! It was driving me crazy! In my case I THOUGHT I had the holding tank latched together and tried cleaning 3 times and just kept saturating my carpet. Then I noticed that while the holding tank will still latch together and fit in the vacuum, it wasn't completely latched down so it wasn't suctioning. Definitely trying different handle levels seemed to make a difference in how much it suctioned too! Thanks for all the advice in this link!

I have this same problem - has a true fix been found I have contacted Hoover several times through E-mail and chat with no assistance. Mine doesn't seem to be putting out the cleaner when I first got it I'd fill the cleaner bottle all the way up and do just my bedroom it would be half empty when I was done, but now it doesn't move at all, yet my carpet has "suds" when I step on it, it's picking up water but not all of it. my floors are wet for days even with fans blowing on them and towels put down and heavy objects on them soaking up water it's like someone dumped 20 gallons of water on my carpet and left it. My tan carpets are getting black stains where it's not drying oddly enough I fill the clean water tank one time to do two full rooms, whereas before I had to stop and fill it at least 3 times. But my floors are soaked! there are no clogs, anywhere I can watch the water come up through the translucent part where the brushes are, sometimes it's an inch and half wide stream other times it's less than half an inch wide stream being pulled up in. I went back to hoover because it's always been a good brand and I was fed up with replacing Bissel's every 2 months or so rather it was a rug scrubber or a vacuum cleaner!

I contacted Hoover and they suggested putting two cups of warm water in the dirty water tank and my cleaner now suctions very well.  No idea the reasoning behind this but it worked!  
Also noticed my filter was dirty on the bottom —very hard to see— but cleaned that and then decided to take it out as suggested by others.

The dirty water tank top has two plastic prongs in the rear that need to go into the bottom first before snapping the  front of the top down.  The top looked closed on my machine  after pulling it out a couple of times until I discovered this.

The filter ain't got nothing to do with nothing. I just slapped the dirty water tank back in there like a red-headed step child and made sure I heard the mightiest of clicks. When I did that and turned it back on, it was like angels came off the mountain singing "Hallelujah!!" Whereas before ... Nada, nothing, zilch. Even the water going into the carpet improved after I got the collection tank back on there correctly. Ignore all this other stuff you see (unless you got a clog) and just smack it in there!!

Drove me nuts until this post!  Removed <red> filter in dirty water collection bin (which was clean and rinsed prior) solved the problem for me, too.  So silly!!!

Check the following:

1. Ensure that the suction tank lid is properly aligned and seated front to back. The latch will close even if the front is not seated properly and if this happens, it will not build suction. 1st photo shows gap when front of lid is not properly seated. 2nd photo is properly seated.

2. Ensure the purple filter is not clogged up. If it is clogged, it will keep from building suction. Can be removed for cleaning, 3rd photo.

3. Make sure the clear (brushes) cover is properly seated to the suction linlet. If not it will not build suction. Make sure latch is locked, 4th photo.

4. Be sure to keep seal gaskets clean and free of debris.

I experienced same problem.  No suction.  Found easy solution on youtube channel called Techwalls.  Video is just over 1 minute.

Here's a summary from the video.

No suction – Reset Sequence –

Turn power off, tilt back handle 180 degrees, power on.  Suction should return.

Also make sure the dirty water tank is securely in place.  The top of the dirty water tank will click into place.  You will hear it click.

I did all recommended fixes with no luck, spent a long time with no results.  Alas! I Plugged in the hose to the vacuum port and it worked !   Then I unplugged same hose and the carpet sweeper started to suck for all it’s worth sucking copious amounts of water. 
  Not sure why this fixed it but it did it did no doubt.  I suspect plugging in the hose reset the  vacuum pump.  I did happen to see in my investigation that on the newer model there is a place next to the auxiliary port to push in a reset button to reset the pump.   Hail to not giving up. lol

Along the way I discovered a never before seen button labled “DRY ONLY” Surprise   As you can imagine when this is on the cleaner is NOT dispensed onto the rug.   Extremely helpful option.  
When I’m all done cleaning I give it one more go. I’ll call this the “RINCE CYCLE”. 
  This time with tap water in the little solution bottle and only clear hot water from the tap for the tank I wash the rug again with “DRY ONLY.” on .  You will be pleased at the results.

Ensure the Nozzle Cover is attached properly and in the locked position, then check that the Dirty Water Tank is attached properly. Lastly, clear the Debris Filter and rinse it.
