“i know this question may sound stupid but does the controller pieces work with the joycon connector? for example can i put them on the rechargeable one and use it like a normal controller as well.”

No you can’t. The controllers do not need to be recharged. The are supplied power via the switch itself, so it may drain the switch battery power faster than other controllers that have their own rechargeable batteries. Also the split grips will not fit into the standard joycon controller that was supplied with your switch. Hope this helps.
