Hello, thank you for taking the time to write this question regarding this great washer. We would be happy to help! The "Heavy", "Medium", and "Light" settings under the Wash Cycle Selector Knob on this washer are referring to soil level of laundry to be washed. So, for example, if you had a medium-sized load of colored clothes that were heavily soiled, you would set the "Load Size" knob to "Medium" and the Wash Cycle Selector Knob to "Colors - Heavy".
