Hi there, and thanks for reaching out to us. We hate to hear you've had any issue with not being able to add fabric softener because of the lid locking and know that must have caused concern. Newer top-load washers do feature a lid lock that is engaged either when the washer is load-sensing (if that is a feature of the model), or when the basket is spinning above 50 RPM. If you need to add an item, detergent or softener when the cycle has already started, you can do so by pausing the cycle. You do need to wait until the basket has completely slowed to a stop before the lid can be opened, for safety reasons. Depending on the speed it was spinning at and the size of the load, it can take up to 3 minutes to slow enough for the lid to unlock. If you have issues with unlocking the lid past that 3 minute mark, unplugging the washer for a minute to allow the electrical components to reset can be helpful. We hope this information is helpful, and are happy to help with any other questions or concerns. Best wishes! -Sarah@GEA
