“I travel a lot, will the cartridge dry out if I don't use it for an extended period of time, say up to 6 months?”

A toner cartridge has a powered toner in it, instead of a liquid ink, so it won't dry out. The only real requirement is that once the bag that the toner cartridge is in has been opened, the toner is kept in "normal atmospheric conditions", so if it's comfortable for you, it's fine for the toner.
