S Mode is preloaded and blocks you from downloading non Microsoft apps like Chrome. You can turn it off, but you can't turn it back on, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to switch out of S mode. Switching out of S mode is one-way.
