Yes you can add memory. The max it will take is 8gb. You have to take off the back cover and you can add memory and a ssd drive. 12 screws have to be removed first. Download the Hp 255 g4 service manual and it will show you how to do this. I added 8gb of ram, and an ssd drive. You can not use the 4gb and 8gb together, since the max the motherboard supports is 8gb.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can add ram, I did it myself. I know have 8gb of RAM.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The only really "credible" respondent that says RAM can't be added is HP itself, and I imagine whoever wrote that response said it because HP in its infinite widsom has designated the RAM slots as "non-customer-accessible". To be realistic, one does have to remove a LOT of screws and a few panels to get at the slots, so it's not something a random laptop user would probably be looking to do, but if you're comfortable/ willing to do so, the same "Maintenance and Service Guide" in which HP designates the slots as non-accessible, notes that one can add either 2GB or 4GB RAM (and gives OEM HP part numbers for the relevant DIMMs.) The Guide can be downloaded from HP's website and includes the diagrams and instructions you'd have to follow to install more RAM, if you want to see what you'd be getting yourself into.
