According to the google chrome AUE guidelines........ Yes it will be useless because google will stop sending updates to the computer once the AUE date has been reached. Some folks talk about converting it to another operating program, but that sound complicated, so once the end of life comes, just use it as a nice coaster for the morning coffee, or keep using it and ride the risk of someone hacking into your personal accounts. As far as extensions........ nobody knows.
