One cause could be the router you are connecting to and the best way to rule that out is to connect it to a different router. If you still have disconnects, you can connect to the other USB part that is on the laptop, which would indicate a defective port. The USB-ethernet adapter could also have technical issues and an exchange for a new adapter would rule that out. Another issue is software support in Windows, which Microsoft can look into.
