You should not have to purchase Norton, even if you were to switch out of S mode. It's just advertising because they want your money.

It limits downloads to those in the Microsoft Store and the only browser used in S Mode is Microsoft Edge. Converting out of S Mode gives more flexibility in download originations and browser choice, and Windows has a built-in anti-virus app, Windows Defender. Note that this laptop comes with a 30-day trial of McAfee LiveSafe. If you wish to take security one step farther.
