Whether it's chargable or not is going to depend on what caused the battery to "go bad". If it's completely discharged, it should be recharable, but if it's a mechanical problem with the battery, it may not be charageable. The battery is replaceable, but it's been a quite a while since I've seen a laptop with a battery that can be removed from outside. A trained tech will be able to replace the battery for you.
