It's going to depend on what the laptop is resting on (a soft surface will restrict airflow and cause heat build-up) and how hot you consider "hot". If you feel like it's hotter than it should be and it's not sitting on a hot surface, you'll want to contact the HP Support team so they can run through some tests with you to determine if it's an unreasonable amount of heat.
