I bought mine because I wanted something to use for writing, and so far I'm very happy with it. The keyboard is nice and the layout is less cramped than my old 15 inch model which is good for my old, fat fingers. If your wife is going to be using this at a desk, I might recommend a wireless mouse. Since I'm not a touch typist, I suffer from 'lazy' wrists and wind up inadvertently swiping the touch pad now and then. So using a wireless mouse keeps things cleaner when at my desk.
