• Hello, Molly. This HP laptop comes with Windows 10 in S Mode. That means you can only use apps from the Microsoft Store and the Microsoft Edge. You can switch of S Mode. It is free and easy to do. Here are the instructions: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4456067/windows-10-switch-out-of-s-mode Once you switch out of S Mode, then you can download software on this laptop. You can use USB external CD/DVD drives like sku 5852919, 6285911, or 1970008. If you put the SKU number in the search box on Best Buy's website, you will see those items. You can also search for USB external CD/DVD drive.

• Yes. I bought an external LG DVD/CD drive when I bought this laptop. Best Buy has a promotion for 20% off an external DVD drive when you buy this laptop, so I got it for around $30. It works Plug and Play, and I was able to load software from disks (DVDs and CDs) that I had with no problem whatsoever.
