“This is an Intel IRIS and according to research it is an upgrade to Intel UHD Graphics. If this is true why does this color look so washed out and not color accurate compared to the Acer Aspire 3 17-inch. It hurt my eyes to look at the screen.”

It's probably the HP anti-glare screen. It minimizes reflections, but the clarity is slightly diminished.

The 17-cn0023dx laptop has an IPS display. However, it's anti-glare, 250 nits, and 45% NTSC - 45% NTSC is typically less color accurate. The Envy and Spectre models have brighter, higher nit IPS and OLED screens with the best color gamut and accuracy. Apologies, we don't have the specification for the competing model that you mentioned, and cannot make a comparison.
