There are two slots. It allows you to insert two laptop DDR4 memory sticks. They lay flat opposite each other, unlike some laptops that somehow stack memory sticks. Getting at it is a bit of a chore, but done carefully, you cannot notice that anyone has ever opened the case. Search IFixit.com for ways to do this. There are a few parts that have adhesive, but in my experience, if you pull these items very carefully, the stickiness will remain intact. The job of separating the case to get at the memory and SATA drive is medium. If you are technically inclined this will be well worth the trouble. If you are not technically inclined, there are better laptops with ease of access. You probably won't find it anywhere near this price point with these specs, but the extra expense might be worth it for you.
