“Is it possible to add additional RAM to this device? I haven't owned an all-in-one computer before, so, although I do find it quite aesthetically pleasing, I can't possibly invest in a desktop that has less RAM than my laptop currently has.”

Yes it is possible up to 16 G, although in the HP website recommends 8G. But it is possible and very easy. But be aware it's a replaceable ram you have to replace the one it has with the new bigger ram(8). There are no extra slots to add ram.
