“Dumb question, but I would like to use a roku (for remote) through this computer and since it doesn't have a bi-directional hdmi, do you know if I can use a usb to hdmi adapter to connect the roku to the computer?”

Most USB to HDMI adapters will only works as an output and not an input which would cause you the same issue. Some of the protection and encryption on many of the streaming devices might block it from being able to be seen by the computer. Same if you were to use something like a capture card. You could try asking HP Support or Best Buy about possible options.
