Hi Bob, thank you for asking. Comparing AMD Ryzen 5 to Intel i5 processors is like comparing a Ford to a Chevy. Both brands will drive you wherever you want to go, and they have their own "feature set". AMD processors tend to be less expensive, and may be reflected in the price of the PC. I am using a laptop with a Ryzen 5 processor right now. It's fine for my needs. Just like you have a wish list for other features (touch screen or not, backlit keyboard, more storage, a good amount of RAM), the processor should be suitable for the type of use you're intending for your PC.
