“Will a hp64 standard color cartridge work well with a black. Hp64XL IN ENVY 7858 printer i guess I’m asking are they compatible and will be any problems”

• I have used this combination with no problems. The xl cartridge just has more ink and will be able to print more pages.

• Yes, it will. The printer is quite happy to "mix and match" the 64 standard and 64XL cartridges.
