I had not considered that before but it makes sence that one color inside the cartridge will run out first so yea, i guess it is.
 I switched from a HP that used four separate color cartridges but now i realize that was probably the beneit of that printer.

Thank you for the question. Have you tried adjusting the print quality, or cleaning the printheads? Sometimes that helps. You might want to switch to a printer that uses four separate cartridges, then a single empty cartridge/color can be replaced. You'd be a good candidate for HP Instant Ink, because no matter what colors you use, you receive new cartridges before you run out of ink. Instant Ink saves about 50% of ink costs.
