• I think maybe it's that some images were thrown in the trash on the computer from the memory stick but not deleted from the trash so they still semi show from the memory stick. A random guess might be, are the photos edited and/or in a different format(JPEG,gif,..,)?

• My guess would be that your picture type (i.e. jpeg, gif, etc) is not supported by the picture frame. Have you verified this?
