• It's an inkjet, no drum. It uses two cartridges a black and a tri-color. The cost depends on whether you buy the standard or high yield cartridge. Cartridges are in the $20 to $30 range

• You can buy ink cartridges off ebay refurbished for $20.00 bucks which will get you 1 black and 1 colored. Brand new is a little more.
