Thank you for your question. Printheads can dry out if you aren't printing regularly - by regularly, it's advised that you try to print at least one page once a week to avoid any damage to your printheads. The HP DeskJet 2734e does use the HP 67 genuine cartridges that include the printhead built into the cartridge, so if you don't print often, it's certainly a beneficial setup to avoid having to replace the printhead separately.
