Hello Jay, and thank you for your question! There are two ways you can print a check regardless of what type of printer it is. Option 1: The check is pre-encoded (sometimes called preprinted) by the bank and all the printer is doing is putting information like the name and dollar amount on the check. Any printer can do this ink or laser. Option 2: The check needs to be encoded which means using MICR ink or toner. That means you need a specialty printer that can handle the ink/toner. This HP DeskJet Printer can only print on pre-printed checks
