Not sure I believe the HP response as I have a 27" Envy AIO. I plug in my gaming laptop to use the bigger screen of the Envy. When I do that the Envy just serves as a dual monitor. It's totally possible. Not sure why they would respond that it is not. After I plug in my laptop I press the HDMI button on the back and voila, 2nd monitor.
