Regarding OS X compatibility, while I have both a PC and a mid-2012 MacBook Pro, this printer instead encouraged me to download the associated iOS app to set it up. For me, the included DVD was a waste; when they say you can set up via smartphone, they're not kidding. Yes, this is one of HP's latest models. No, there's no reason to buy directly from HP. And yes, get a model that supports HP Instant Ink.
