“Is this printer compatible with my Mac Pro laptop? Recently installed OS X EI Capitan Version 10.11.2. The printer Mac system requirement on Best Buy site does not list this, but at the Apple site it shows Mac OS X 10.7 or later. I looked at purchasing the HP Office jet OJ 8040 printer but was told it was not compatible because of the above issue with the operating system. If the 7640 will not work, which printer will. I am looking for a All-In-One Printer.”

I have the exact same printer and the 13" MacBook Pro and I recently upgraded my software too and it still works fine. The only thing is when ever you are trying to print make sure that they are both on the same wireless network, or else it will not work

During initial setup, the printer will look for your computer, you then make the connection and it will ask to download the HP utility compatible software. I was able to setup my iMac in 5 minutes or less.
